You may have tried saving, setting some if not all your money aside to be used later. After a while you find yourself withdrawing and using all that you had saved. Sound familiar?
If yes, there’s no need to worry I am here to help. I was in the same predicament for quite some time and found a way out. I know how devastating it can be.”Why do we have such a poor saving culture?” Well, that’s a topic for another day.

How to save when You earn little
Do you have an empty jar or tin lying around? If so…clean the jar up and it might just help you buy that shoe that you saw on Jumia. What am I talking about? I am talking about saving your daily spare change. Place that change in the jar and forget about it for some time. At the end of the year, you’ll be amazed at how much you will have saved.

Turn the lights off, when you leave a room. When it’s daylight, turn the lights off. When you’re brushing your teeth, turn the running water off. This tip as easy as it sounds might be the most challenging to adopt. Ultimately you will not only be saving a few coins but you’ll also be saving the environment.

“Cook at home and try as much as possible to minimize the rate at which you take food at hotels. We end up spending so much when we eat out.” How many of us have heard this? …I have and it saves those hundreds. Carry packed lunch! Do I have to repeat it? Of course, I do, you’ll save a lot in the long run.
Preserve leftovers.

Instead of always going out with friends have them come over to your place and cook together. In the case of parties have your friends come with dishes. These simple tips will help you save quite a lot at the end of the day.

When going shopping I always advise people to have a list of what they want to buy. List down groceries, toiletries and everything else with an estimated value. Carry an estimated amount of the total cash. Be warned, not to carry an exact amount. This will help us resist buying things that we don’t really need.

How many of us bargain? Well, mothers are experts at that. How do I know that? I’ve seen mine in action. She saves so much, especially in the free market. So bargain where you can.
Bulk buying as a way of savingÂ
This is another tip that I picked up from my mother. Do you know how many tissues you use in a month? If so leave a comment in the comment section below. At the beginning of the month have a list of everything you will be using. Purchase these items, preferably, from a wholesale store. This will have you saving so much. This brings me to my next point, always compare prices. Compare Prices of goods between stores. One store might be selling a roll of tissues at Ksh.25 while another is selling at Ksh.20. That extra 5 shillings will go a long way for anyone willing to live a frugal life. Not cheap but frugal.
